West Georgia Domestic Violence Shelter provides legal advocacy to help survivors understand and navigate the legal system during what can be an overwhelming and difficult time. Our Legal Advocates provide information, support, and referrals to help survivors make informed decisions about their safety and legal options.
Our Legal Advocacy services can assist survivors with navigating the Temporary Protective Order (TPO) process, including providing information about the process, helping survivors understand the necessary steps, and connecting them with appropriate legal resources. While our advocates do not provide legal advice or represent clients in court, they are available to help survivors understand their options and access the resources they need.
Our advocates can also assist survivors with Victim Compensation applications. We help eligible survivors understand the program, gather necessary documentation, and navigate the application process so they can seek assistance with qualifying expenses resulting from the victimization.
When survivors are required to attend court, our advocates can provide court accompaniment and emotional support. Advocates can help survivors understand what to expect, provide information about available resources, and accompany them when appropriate so they do not have to navigate the court process alone.
