West Georgia Domestic Violence Shelter provides safe, confidential emergency shelter and supportive services for women and children who are survivors of domestic violence. Our shelter is state-certified for 18 beds, but we have the capacity to safely accommodate up to 32 individuals, including spaces equipped with cribs and toddler beds for younger children. We also provide advocacy and supportive services to male survivors of domestic violence. When emergency shelter is needed, we work with community partners to identify and secure safe, appropriate alternative shelter accommodations for men.

Upon entering the shelter, each adult resident works closely with a Case Manager to develop an individualized service plan based on their immediate needs, safety concerns, and long-term goals. Residents complete weekly assessments with their Case Manager to monitor progress, identify barriers, and establish goals related to housing, employment, financial stability, education, transportation, legal needs, and overall self-sufficiency.

Children staying at the shelter receive age-appropriate support from a Child Advocate who works with each child to establish weekly goals and complete assessments. Child Advocates provide activities, crafts, educational opportunities, and supportive programming designed to help children express their feelings, build confidence, and understand healthy relationships. Children also participate in age-appropriate discussions and activities focused on safety, emotional wellness, and awareness of domestic violence.

In addition to shelter, West Georgia Domestic Violence Shelter provides crisis intervention, supportive services, individual and group support, legal advocacy, assistance with Temporary Protective Orders, safety planning, referrals to community resources, emergency food and clothing, and assistance accessing victim compensation. These services are available to survivors regardless of gender. Residents and clients are also connected with community partners and other resources to help them establish safe and stable lives after leaving the shelter.
