Our History

A Legacy of Hope and Healing

For more than three decades, West Georgia Domestic Violence Shelter has been a safe place, a helping hand, and a voice for change for survivors of domestic violence in our community.

1990

 

The Beginning

A group of concerned citizens recognized the urgent need for safe shelter and support services for survivors in West Georgia

1992

 

Shelter Opens

We opened our first emergency shelter, offering safety and advocacy to women and children in crisis

1998

 

Expanding Services

Legal advocacy and court accompaniment programs were established to help survivors navigate the justice system.

2005

 

Community Outreach

Outreach and education programs were launched to raise awareness and prevent domestic violence in our communites.

2015

 

Growing Impact

We expanded support groups and counseling services to better serve survivors and their families.

Today

 

Stronger Together

We continue to grow, adapt, and strengthen our services empowering survivors and building a future free from violence.
