Volunteers are an important part of the work at West Georgia Domestic Violence Shelter. By giving your time, talents, and compassion, you help create a safe, supportive community for survivors and their children.

Ways You Can Volunteer

• Shelter Support-Help with organizing donations, preparing supplies, maintaining common areas, and supporting the day-to-day needs of the shelter.

• Children & Family Activities-Assist with children’s activities, crafts, educational programs, holiday events, and activities that help children feel safe, supported, and empowered.

• Community Outreach-Help represent West Georgia Domestic Violence Shelter at community events, resource fairs, awareness campaigns, and prevention initiatives.

• Fundraising & Events-Support our fundraising events, including the Step at a Time 5K, Purple Ribbon Fall Festival, and Dining with a Purpose Gala.

• Administrative Support-Assist with special projects, organizing materials, preparing resources, and other tasks that help our staff provide services to survivors.

• Special Skills & Projects-Share your talents! Volunteers with skills in photography, graphic design, marketing, crafts, education, event planning, and other areas can help strengthen our programs and outreach.

 

INTERNSHIP
Learn. Serve. Advocate. Make a Difference.

An internship with West Georgia Domestic Violence Shelter provides students with the opportunity to gain meaningful, hands-on experience while supporting survivors of domestic violence and their children. Gain Real-World Experience Interns have the opportunity to learn about domestic violence intervention and prevention, advocacy, shelter services, community resources, and the systems that support survivors as they work toward safety and independence.

Internship Opportunities

• Advocacy & Client Services-Gain experience supporting survivors, learning about advocacy, case management, crisis intervention, and community resources.

• Children & Family Services-Assist with age-appropriate activities, educational programs, support groups, and services designed to help children impacted by domestic violence.

• Community Outreach & Prevention-Participate in awareness campaigns, educational presentations, community events, and prevention initiatives.

• Legal Advocacy-Learn about the legal advocacy process and how advocates help survivors navigate Temporary Protective Orders, victim compensation, and court-related resources.

• Administrative & Program Support-Assist with special projects, program development, research, outreach materials, and other activities that support the organization's mission.
